Jesus is my reason...........................

WWW
« on: November 07, 2007, 10:45:38 AM »

Well I know I have talked of replacing the rear axle and upgrading the front; I finally have a beginning. I pulled the front axle (Dana30) and rebuilt it putting the 373's in it. New bearings and seals. Sorry for the lack of photos but I forgot the camera at home that day.

I did land a Dana 44 front that needs to be shortened and built but that will be for another time.
My next project (hopefully in about 3 weeks) will be to install the Ford 8.8 in the rear. For now I have to say that the Jeep is a 2WD (307's in the rear still) so I am really grounded until the rear is done.

I have officially begun the never ending process of upgrading the drive-train. (Thanks go out to the Millers for allowing me to have a place to work amongst all of the madness of the remodeling)

I promise the next post will have photos. (I will try to upload the 2 I took from my camera phone)

Jake

PS: Sorry I have been away from here for so long. Thank you all for your continued prayers.

Well it has been awhile since I posted up on this but it is time for an update.
As some of you know I recently took the Jeep to Idaho, Washington, and Oregon.
The Jeep developed a good size leak from the tranny  the last 100 miles (thank God)

Since the last post here is a short update;
Front axle got an ARB with new outer U-Joints
Hard top installed with full doors and vented tailgate (painted to match) courtesy of John L
2" body lift
4" RE Suspension lift with rear adjustable upper arms
Winch and front Bumper (Thanks Mitch)
Custom rear bumper with tire carrier (saving wear on that new tailgate)
New wheels and a set of 33" BFG TA's (5)

Over the next couple of months I will be doing the following;

Front axle will be replaced with a D30 housing with 488 gears, ARB, D44 axles and steering
Rear axle will be upgraded to 488's
Transmission removed and sealed
Possible engine removal and either R&R or upgrade to a stroker (spare motor sitting in the garage)
Interior is coming out and installing insulation on floorboards and new carpets (thanks again John L)
If I get crazy enough I will be installing 35-37" tires, front tube fenders and cutting the rear to fit the bigger shoes.

After that it is off to Montana to cap off the year. Idaho was amazing and I had a real itch to go to Montana but I would have probably ended up continuing east for the winter.

I am not one for pics of my builds because once I get started I dont want to pick up the camera until I am done for the day and by then it is too late. I will try and remember to do this.

Sorry but I dont have pics. I will try to get some this weekend when we are doing the axle.

Last weekend the Jeep went into the shop for a pretty good transmission leak. While it is there I had them replace the stock T-Case shift linkage with one from .
It is also getting a replacement converter and some TLC from B&B Transmissions in Porterville.

I will be taking it over to Kokomos to let Chris get started on the 488s for the rear axle. (This will be a complete axle overhaul, including the LS clutches)

On Saturday I will be putting that solid D30 with 488s, ARB, D44 Chromolly Axles (inner and outer), and some pretty serious steering linkage. (I am sure Mitch can fill in the blanks here)

Once this is done I will be looking for some 35s to put on it (along with the matching speedo gear), then its off to another road trip (hopefully Montana and the Black Hills of SD before the snow melts)

R&R because I can. I have been working hard on some websites and I need a break from all of the code. Not till April though.

Was going to do the MTR'  but they are on back order and I like the look of the KM2s. Talked to the tire guy and he said these are getting better mileage if they are taken care of.  When I upgrade to 37s I will look at the MTRs  cele2
